We met Diary of a Wimpy Kid Author Jeff Kinney!

March 20, 2018

Last Thursday, we had a fabulous time attending the 41st Annual Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture at the Indianapolis Central Library. We were seated in the second row by the stage as part of the Friends of the Library. It was an incredible lecture given by the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Jeff Kinney. A ton of laughs. We enjoyed listening to him speak.

Our youngest daughter is a huge fan of Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. If you read our past blog post, you will see that she met Jeff Kinney in the past at an red carpet event promoting his movie back in 2017 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Yes, she has his autograph. However, our daughter wasn’t able to take a picture with him back then. So she was determined to take a photo with him at this event. Despite waiting in line for more than 2 hours, she said it was worth the time to take a picture with him. She was able to have one book signed as well. Since she had us (big sister & mom) read Dairy of a Wimpy Kid books prior to the event, our oldest daughter and I (mom) each also had a book signed. We will never forget this experience.

This event was free to attend. Yes, free. However, we know how hard the librarians & staffs at the library work to make this event happen. Prior to this event, we decided to support the library by making a donation to the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. We became one of Friends of the Library donors. We are truly thankful of the Indianapolis Public Library and the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation for organizing this amazing lecture. We will continue to support the library through the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation – Friends of the Library.

Parents, if you are looking for educational programs and events, make sure to visit the Indianapolis Library’s website and check out their upcoming events calendar. They have a ton of educational programs & events to offer. Their downtown Central Library is beautiful. You could spend an entire day exploring the library with your kids too. Our family has attended several book signing events, children’s programs and concerts in the past. We are very impressed with the library. If you are not in the Indianapolis area, be sure to check out the libraries near where you live. Many libraries offer incredible programs and events for free. Make a habit of taking your children to the library! This is how our girls became book lovers! We believe that reading books will open many doors to children’s future.

Happy Reading Everyone!
